Abstract
Lewatit Monoplus TP 207 XL ion exchange resin has a function to separate metal from nickel ore laterite in leaching solution. This resin has good wear ability and low solubility inside of solution after leaching process, therefore can be used at elevated temperature frequently. This study concern on kinetic of nickel and cobalt absorption of Lewatit Monoplus TP 207 XL ion exchange resin in nickel solution and synthetic cobalt, with potential hydrogen various around 3,4 and 5 at room temperature of 40 °C and 50 °C. Result shows that nickel and cobalt adsorption percentage can be obtained approximately around 92.19% and 97.12%, respectively, in nickel sulfide solution and 5 potential hydrogen of synthetic cobalt at temperature 50 °C. Based on kinetic study which has been done, absorption rate of resin at the first process (≤ 2 h) effected by ions diffusion rate through diffusion layer in the fluid. Result shows that potential hydrogen and solution temperature affect in nickel and cobalt absorption percentages, and also resin more appropriate to absorb these metals simultaneously, due to difficulty to separate of them. This study also shows possibility to using this resin for absorption nickel and cobalt in various solutions which is obtained from low nickel laterite with low ferrous ions after leaching process.
