Abstract

Have performed experiments Fe2O3 increased levels of primary iron ore processing type hematite (Fe2O3) from Bajuin, South Kalimantan. The purpose of this experiment for creating α-Fe2O3 to meet the standards for lithium battery cathode materials, namely LiFePO4. To obtain α-Fe2O3, conducted an experiment to increase the levels of Fe2O3 to Fe2O3 obtained levels>90%. Experiments performed with several stages to obtain α-Fe2O3 raw materials that meet the standards. The first stage of the preparation is done by way of primary iron ore crushing, and grinding the sample to a size of 100# (mesh). The second stages leaching by using HCl to dissolve iron, and separating impurities insoluble impurities in HCl. The next step is done hydrolysis or precipitation of the filtrate (solution) leaching results, namely by adding ammonia. The variables were observed in this experiment include the concentration of HCl, roasting time and temperature roasting. The results showed that for the variation of the concentration of HCl, obtained optimum results in the concentration of HCl 1: 1. In this condition the experimental results obtained with a fairly large residual mass, namely α-Fe2O3 to Fe2O3 content of>90%. As for the time variable obtained the best results in the experiments for 4 hours, but less than optimal because it would require excessive energy. In the experiment roasting temperature difference, the higher the temperature is not necessarily increased levels of Fe2O3. So in terms of efficiency and economy, then the temperature with a temperature of 500°C is sufficient to the manufacture of α-Fe2O3.
