Based on the data that was gathered by PPK-LIPI in 2010 employing the survey, in-depth interview, and focus group discussion methods, this article is trying to analyze the trend and migration direction of Indonesian workers abroad from Tulung Agung Regency, and the remittances that encourage the departure. The case needs to be assessed so that it can contribute towards solving the problems that Indonesian migrant workers have to deal with both in the present and in future times. For more than thirty years, tens of thousands of Indonesian migrant workers from Tulung Agung Regency have left their place of origin in order to search for better economic opportunities abroad. Malaysia was the main destination country to make a living; however, since the 2000s, there has been a shift in the trend towards countries in East Asia. The income received from working abroad is remitted to the migrant workers' place of origin. The remittance flows are utilized for a variety of family needs, such as improving the living condition of a household and building or renovating a house. Some of the family members of the migrant workers utilize the remittance money to develop small-scale economic productive businesses, pay the children's school tuition, and buy land. The results of the research can hopefully be used as material for forming recommendations on the effective utilization of remittances and migration management capacity building for the workers.
