Abstract

The number of widows has increased in Indonesia, especially in West Java. A widow will face greater demands to meet family needs due to the loss or reduced support in the absence of a husband. This study examines widows in the labor market of West Java province. Specifically, this study will examine whether the widow status factor influences women entering the labor market and its influence on getting a job. This research uses raw data from Sakernas 2020, with a total sample of 29,974 individuals from all districts in West Java. The collected data was processed and analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis and logistic regression to assess the likelihood of widows entering the labor market and being employed. The results of the study show that the status of a widow does not significantly affect the probability of West Java women entering the labor market, but it does have an influence on the probability of being absorbed in the labor market. Non-widowed women are more likely to be employed than widows. Women with widow status primarily work in other service sectors, with menial types of work, with their own employment status(informal), and receive lower wages.
