Keywords:

Education plays an essential role in improving the quality of human resources. Vocational High School (VHS) is an educational unit specifically designed to produce graduates with abilities by the needs of the labor market. Along with the tight competition in the labor market and the unwillingness to live as unemployed, many VHS graduates tend to accept jobs that do not match their educational background. This mismatch is called horizontal mismatch, which impacts the workforce, companies, and economy. In Indonesia, research that examines horizontal mismatch is still limited. This study aims to determine the description of horizontal mismatch among VHS graduate workers in Indonesia in 2022 and the variables that affect it by using data from the National Labor Force Survey of August 2022 with observations of 42430 workers. This research uses a binary logistic regression analysis method with the dependent variable horizontal mismatch status and six independent variables. The results show that age, gender, regional classification, marital status, job training, and previous work experience significantly affect the horizontal mismatch among VHS graduate workers in Indonesia in 2022.
