Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

1. General Standard Writing

1.1. Scripts are written in Indonesian or English.

1.2. Title, Abstract, and Keywords must be written in two languages (Indonesian and English).

1.3. Scripts are written in MS Word on A4 size paper, font Times New Roman (TNR) size 11, single space, the upper limit and the right of each is 2 cm, while the left and lower limits of each is 2.5 cm. The length of the manuscript is at least 2,000 words and not more than ten pages, not including appendices.

1.4. The use of terms outside the Indonesian or English are written in italics.

3. How to Write the Title

3.1. The title reflects the essence of writing, small caps letters typed in bold, not exceeding 15 words, placed at the center, and written in TNR font 14, single space.

3.2. If the title is written in Indonesian, then below is rewritten in English, and vice versa. Small caps letters typed in bold, not exceeding 15 words, placed at the center, and written in TNR font 14, single space.

3.3. If the scientific papers are written in Indonesian, the English title is written in italics, while the Indonesian title is written not in italics, and vice versa. Exceptions to the writing of the Latin name using the sentence case.

4. How to Write Name and Address

4.1. The author's full name is typed under the title, without mentioning academic title, placed at the center, bold, using font TNR 11.

4.2. Address of the authors (name and address of the institution where they work) is fully written under the name of the author.

4.3. Email address is written under the author address.

4.4. If there are more than one addresses, it must be marked with an asterisk (*) followed by current address.

4.5. If the authors consist of more than one person, the conjunctive 'and' is used (not the symbol '&').

4.6. Postal address and email of the author is written using TNR font 10, single space.

5. How to Write Abstract and Keywords

5.1. Abstract is written in one paragraph, written in two languages (Indonesian and English), using font TNR 10, single space.

5.2. Abstract in Indonesian at most 250 words, while abstract in English at most 200 words.

5.3. Abstract position is based on the language used in the scientific paper. If the scientific paper is written in Indonesian, the precedence is English abstract is written in italics, while the abstract written in the Indonesian language is not in italics, and vice versa.

5.4. The word abstract is written in capital letters in bold.

5.5. Abstract in Indonesian is followed by keywords in Indonesian, while abstract in English is followed by keywords in English. Exceptions to the term outside Indonesian or English.

5.6. Keywords consist of three to six phrases.

6. How to Write the Chapter (Heading)

6.1. Heading level 1, written in the format: capital letters, left aligned, bold, TNR 11, single space.

6.2. Heading level 2, written in the format: capitalized each word case, left aligned, bold, TNR 11, single space.

6.3. Heading level 3, written in the format: sentence case, left aligned, bold, italic, TNR 11, single space.

6.4. Heading level 4, is not recommended.

7. How to Add Table

7.1. Title of the table is placed right above of the table, left aligned, use the font of TNR 10.

7.2. The word 'Table' and 'Number' is written in bold, while the title of the table is written normally.

7.3. Use Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, etc.) for the table's title numbering

7.4. The table is placed on the left of the page.

7.5. Type and font size for the contents of the table is using font Calibri 9-10, single space.

7.6. Inclusion of resources or information is placed at the bottom of the table, left aligned, italic, using font TNR 9.

8. How to Add Figures

8.1. Figures can be in the form of graphs, matrices, photographs, diagrams and the likes, placed in the middle of the page (centered).

8.2. Figure's title is written below the image, using TNR font 10, placed to the left side of the figure.

8.3. The word 'Figure' and 'Number' is written in bold, while the contents is written normally.

8.4. Use Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, etc.) for the figure's numbering.

8.5. Inclusion of resources or information is placed under the title of the figure, left aligned, italic, using font TNR 9.

8.6. Figure is in black and white .jpg or .tif file format, unless color determines meaning with its minimum resolution is 300 dpi.

9. Method of citation and bibliography is according to Chicago Manual Style (CMS), while the software can be chosen between Mendeley, MS Word references, or Zetero, etc.

10. The softcopy of the paper is sent to Widyariset website: https://ejournal.brin.go.id/widyariset. The author should create a username and password for that process.

11. Acceptance or rejection of the paper will be announced to the author via the website after the selection process conducted by Editorial Board and assessment process by peer reviewer.

12. The author is willing to revise the paper, and all of communication process is conducted via the website by using his/her username and password.

1. Copyright Ownership

Authors retain full copyright ownership of their articles.

2. Licensing of the Final Published Article

By default, Widyariset publishes the final version of record (VoR) under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). This requires appropriate attribution and mandates that any derivative works be distributed under the exact same license. Any alternative licensing arrangements require prior agreement and will be explicitly indicated on the article.

Alternative Creative Commons licenses may be applied only upon prior written approval from Widyariset. The corresponding author must submit a request at or before manuscript acceptance by emailing the BRIN contact point, specifying:

  • (i) The exact license requested.
  • (ii) Any applicable funder or institutional mandates.
  • (iii) The manuscript title and ID.

The alternative license becomes effective only after Widyariset issues written confirmation and the license is officially displayed on the article’s webpage and PDF. Until confirmation is granted, the standard CC BY-SA 4.0 terms apply. Widyariset reserves the right to decline alternative licensing requests at its discretion.

3. License to Publish

Authors grant Widyariset (BRIN) a non-exclusive License to Publish the VoR. This grants the journal the right to reproduce, distribute, publicly display, communicate, translate, index, preserve, and otherwise make the VoR available across all media and formats worldwide for the duration necessary to ensure permanent scholarly access. Widyariset is authorized to utilize trusted third-party services for these purposes (e.g., DOI registration, indexing, and digital preservation).

Publication will only proceed after the corresponding author has signed the License to Publish (LTP) Agreement on behalf of all co-authors.

4. Author Rights

Authors retain the right to:

  • Share the work with colleagues and utilize it for instructional or teaching purposes.
  • Present the research at academic conferences.
  • Include the article in theses, dissertations, books, encyclopedia entries, or monographs.
  • Create derivative works, provided appropriate citation is given and the works are shared under identical terms.
  • Retain all associated patent and trademark rights.
  • Self-archive preprints and Author Accepted Manuscripts (AAM) in accordance with the journal's archiving policy.

5. Preprints and Self-Archiving

  • Preprints: Authors are permitted to share preprints at any time. Upon formal publication, authors must update the preprint record by adding the full VoR citation, DOI, and a direct link to the published article.
  • Author Accepted Manuscripts (AAM): The AAM may be deposited without an embargo period in personal, institutional, or disciplinary repositories. Deposited manuscripts must include the VoR citation, DOI link, and a statement noting the VoR's licensing terms.
  • Version of Record (VoR): In instances where an AAM's repository license differs from the final VoR license, the repository license applies strictly to the AAM. The final VoR remains governed exclusively by the CC BY-SA 4.0 license displayed on the article.

6. Text and Data Mining (TDM)

Text and Data Mining (TDM) of the VoR or AAM is permitted under the respective manuscript license, provided proper attribution and VoR DOI links are maintained. Derivative corpora containing expressive content must adhere to applicable ShareAlike terms.

  • Access and Infrastructure: Users must respect robots.txt protocols and rate limits, and refrain from circumventing access controls. Bulk access can be arranged via Widyariset APIs or dedicated datasets upon request.
  • Intermediate Copies: The creation of intermediate copies is permitted for research purposes.
  • Outputs: Sharing of TDM outputs is permitted, provided users cite the VoR DOIs and adhere to the applicable ShareAlike license terms.
  • Suspension: Widyariset reserves the right to suspend access in cases of platform abuse; however, previously granted Creative Commons rights remain valid for lawfully acquired copies.

7. Exceptions, Institutional Deposits, and Adaptations

  • Educational Reproduction: Non-profit accredited institutions may freely reproduce the VoR for educational purposes, provided they include the appropriate attribution, the VoR DOI, and the CC BY-SA notice.
  • Government and Institutional Deposits: Deposit of the AAM or VoR is fully permitted where mandated by funding bodies or institutions, provided it includes the VoR citation, DOI, and accurate licensing statements.
  • Translations and Adaptations: Translations and modifications are permitted under the article's CC BY-SA 4.0 terms, requiring appropriate attribution and the utilization of the same ShareAlike license. All adaptations must include a link to the original VoR DOI. Permitted adaptations do not constitute duplicate journal publications.
  • Extended Licensing Pathway: For any reuse scenarios falling outside the scope of the standard CC BY-SA 4.0 license, users must obtain prior written permission from Widyariset.

8. Third-Party Content

Certain figures, tables, or data within an article may be owned by third parties and carry different licensing terms or require explicit copyright permissions. Users are responsible for verifying credit lines and obtaining any necessary permissions from the respective copyright holders.
