The phenomenon of the emerging Madurese stores in Indonesia has recently become the main discourse by the mass and social media, considering its accessibility to nearer road and 24/7 non-stop service. However, non-Madurese retail stores stated that these are violating local regulations and spoiling local economic systems. Later, this business actually generates economic growth as mandated by SDGS 2030. Research objective here is to investigate the business pattern and its influence on national economic development in the Madurese stores in Jakarta Greater Area. The research is using qualitative methods, in combination of in-depth interviews and literature studies. By addressing the problem with Sen’s capabilities approach, this study found that Madurese stores are able to empower the Madurese people through complex socio-economic systems, whereas each family could develop entrepreneurial skills and decision-making ability towards the businesses.
