Abstract

                                                                                To spur the slowing down of Indonesia’s economic growth, the government issued a package containing the VI Economic Policy Establishment of Special Economic Zones (SEZ). Judging from the experience of other countries, the SEZ has been shown to accelerate economic growth, increase GDP, absorb employment, and attract foreign direct investment (FDI). From the eight SEZ set in the Economic Policy Package VI, the formation of the tourist area of Tanjung Lesung very interesting to study as it was the first one in the tourism sector. Given the very large potential of Indonesia’s tourism sector, the Tanjung Lesung SEZ will serve as a pilot model for the development of other SEZs. Additionally, Tanjung Lesung SEZ already set before other SEZs, since the issuance of the presidential decree No. 41 year 2012. Using data from the 2010 Population Census which was collected before Tanjung Lesung was set as SEZ, one can compare the conditions before and after the SEZ runs. This study makes a baseline to capture the socio-economic conditions by dividing the research variables into two groups; groups of population and infrastructure group. Then it will search the media to determine the condition of the latest developments. This study found that infrastructure and human resources are necessary to optimize SEZ Tanjung Lesung.
