MAPPING THE DEVELOPMENT OF BIOTECHNOLOGY RESEARCH IN INDONESIA BASED ON BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS

This study employs a systematic review and meta-analysis approach, following the PRISMA framework, to analyze biotechnology research in Indonesia. The data were collected from the Scopus database. The literature research was conducted for publication over a 30-year period (1994-2023). The initial search identified 1,344 articles. Subsequently, a screening process was conducted using inclusion and exclusion criteria, including publication year, author relevance, research type, English language, and accessibility. After the screening and eligibility assessment stages, 49 articles were selected for final analysis. Based on research results, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) is the university that conducts the most research in biotechnology, followed by Gadjah Mada University (UGM), the University of Indonesia (UI), and Airlangga University (UNAIR). Furthermore, over the past 10 years, the number of biotechnology research projects in Indonesia has increased, with health and agriculture as the most dominant topics. In addition to health and agriculture, biotechnology research in Indonesia also addresses sectors such as plantations, industry, maritime affairs, food, and the environment, as evidenced by studies focusing on applications unique to these fields. This indicates the increasingly broad application of biotechnology across these areas. Overall, these findings indicate that biotechnology research in Indonesia continues to grow but still requires strengthening in collaboration, funding, and infrastructure to support more optimal innovation in the future.
